The professional parking permit
Four hundred francs a year to park on public roads in your sector. Compare with a parking fine, which can reach six hundred francs, once.
The three documents to provide
The application is made in the name of the trader or the company, together with:
- a copy of the vehicle registration document, issued in the entity's name;
- a copy of the commercial register extract, or of the lease;
- the sworn statement, on the Fondation des Parkings' professional form.
The conditions, and what gets an application rejected
Three conditions add up, and the first is the one that trips up small businesses.
- The vehicle is registered in the entity's name. A van registered privately in the owner's name does not qualify for the professional permit.
- It is regularly needed for the business to operate and mainly used for professional trips.
- The company has premises in the sector for which the permit is requested.
Private vehicles used for professional purposes are not eligible. This is the condition that trips up small businesses, where the vehicle has often stayed in the owner's name.
What it changes over a year
The permit costs CHF 400 a year, all taxes included. A parking fine can reach CHF 600, with thirty days to pay, and contesting it does not make it disappear: it becomes a penal order, with a fee on top.
For a team rotating across several sites in the canton, the arithmetic is quick. What remains is to file the application, with the right documents, in the right order.
The case of an employee's vehicle
If the vehicle belongs to a staff member and not to the company, the application is made by the employer and the documents requested are not the same, an employment contract, a job description, an accounting extract of vehicle expenses are mentioned. We do not list them here: the main official page does not mention them and secondary sources contradict each other. Ask the Fondation rather than building a file on an unconfirmed list.
If a fine has already been issued
Fines are handled by the Geneva Service des contraventions, not by the Fondation des Parkings. For the permit itself, everything is done with the Fondation, without travelling. The French version of this page shows the counter's address, opening hours and route.
